![]() ![]() Advertisementįurther Reading The GPU shortage is over. Modern high-end graphics cards have massively higher power, cooling, and PCI Express signaling requirements than cards from just a few years ago, making them more expensive to design and manufacture, and reporting about the RTX 4000 series indicates that that trend is only going to continue. As Peddie points out, even as GPU costs have gone up, profit margins for the board partners that manufacture Nvidia graphics cards have gone down. Nvidia may not be entirely at fault here-the wider dynamics of the GPU market are also tough to navigate. Nvidia's first-party Founders Edition cards could often undercut the pricing of cards offered by EVGA and other vendors, forcing them to either lower prices or lose sales as a result. Nvidia's pricing strategy was apparently another sore point for EVGA. But EVGA CEO Andrew Han told Gamers Nexus that the decision was about "principle" rather than financials-Han complained about a lack of communication from Nvidia about new products, including information about pricing and availability. But according to the YouTubers at Gamers Nexus, analyst Jon Peddie, and an EVGA forum post, EVGA is officially terminating its relationship with Nvidia and will not be manufacturing cards based on the company's RTX 4000-series GPUs.ĮVGA's graphics cards have exclusively used Nvidia GPUs since its founding in 1999, and according to Gamers Nexus, GeForce sales represent 80 percent of EVGA's revenue, making this a momentous and arguably company-endangering change. Corporate mismanagement seems to have been prevalent, eating whatever margins were left.ġ6GB G.Skill RIPJAWS 3600 / 16GB G.Graphics card manufacturer eVGA has made a name for itself manufacturing and selling Nvidia's GeForce GPUs for two decades, including some of the more attractively priced options on the market. They also WAY overstocked on GPUs, twice, for both the 10 series, and it seems they were doing it again with the 3000s. Of course, it seems like there was bad blood between EVGA and Nvidia, and EVGA had been dropping the ball lately, with multiple product recalls, QC failures, and the infamous exploding 3080/3090 fiasco, where 99% of failed cards were EVGA cards. Why would you make multiple SKUs, each with different board designs, coolers, ece if you were not making money on them? Something doesnt add up, and never did. If there was no money in it, then asus/gigabyte/MSI wouldnt be rushing out 9 different models of these cards. They blamed nvidia for this, with nvidia setting MSRP and such, and not allowing them to go above a certain level (we're just gonna ignore how these cards all sold well over MSRP for YEARS during lockdown, including on vendor websites? K ). It was ONLY the 30 which supposedly he couldnt make money on. That being said, if their motherboards do go away, it wouldnt surprise me, this entire affair seemed like EVGA's CEO wanted to wrap things up without wrapping things up.Īs for GPU prices, remember that EVGA said cards like the 3050, 3060, and 3070 were all profitable to sell. Remember, EVGA tried to lay off nobody as their GPU market imploded. The way I read it, this is more "EVGA employees with nothing to do resign". ![]() Sharkoon Rebel 12 / Sharkoon Rebel 9 / Xigmatek MidguardĬhieftec 850W / Sharkoon 650W / Seasonic 400WĬoolerMaster Devastator III Plus / Coolermaster Devastator / Logitech Philips 43PUS8857/12 UHD TV (120Hz, HDR, FreeSync Premium) - 19'' HP monitor + BlitzWolf BW-V5 NVMes, NVMes everywhere / Samsung 256GB NVMe + more / Kingston SSD 240GB XFX RX 580 8GB + GT 710 (PhysX)/ Vega 7 integrated / ATI Radeon HD 5670 MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max (1) / MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max (2) / Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3ġ6GB G.Skill RIPJAWS 3600 / 16GB G.Skill Aegis 3200 / 16GB Kingston 2400MHz (DDR3) Ry/ Ryzen 5 4600G / AM3 Athlon 645 unlocked to 6 core 3.6+GHz 3 desktop systems: Gaming / Internet / HTPC ![]()
